EASTSIDE’S LIVELIHOOD
By Crystal Soto
You see not everyone survives,
Summer comes walking with death by its side
Taking brown bodies
At a blink of an eye
Spending July in confusion
Feelings turning inside
How does one think about the future
Without your homies beside
Street signs are memorials
This is where the homie died
Everyone wants a future
But these pink hills are claiming lives
Then August comes and sunshine arrives
Holding memories getting by
One day at a time
Summer dissolves and
Street signs are memorialized
King & McKee is where the homie died.
