The theme of this issue is Solidaridad/Solidarity as expressed by and across the Eastside community. In an effort to include the mosaic of voices that reflect our diverse community members, we set out to include stories from youth, essential workers, parents, and community leaders.
The stories in this issue came from a cross-section of contributors addressing youth voices toward vaccination support, perspectives from essential laborers such as truck drivers and educators, stories of cross-cultural activism, and the commitment and diversity of county-wide leadership in the form of direct service and outreach efforts.
Eastside Magazine was created to capture the heart of East San José by highlighting the community’s deeply rooted history, cultural vibrancy, ample assets, and considerable resources.
The magazine features the important work of organizations in East San José and stories of commitment and determination that contribute to the community’s growth and strength.
Through this magazine, we aim to emphasize a sense of pride, appreciation, and understanding of East San José as not just an important point of destination, but a home with a rich cultural legacy as the heart of San José.
